Fresh & Easy Buzz is Away Working on A Special Project... Returning On December 8, 2009
As a no longer employee, I too am interested to hear what's going on. I no longer support the company in the least, but definitely do have some friends within the company I care for.
If looking, the Henry's Farmers Market chain is opening a number of new stores in Southern California. Their starting wage is higher than F&E's regular hourly wage.
They are owned by Smart & Final. Henry's is based in Irvine. Many stores in SD region. Sure you are aware of them.
Can see their Web site by just doing Google search for Henry's Farmers Market Website.
We are missing your comments when are you returning. FandE opening 11 stores inFresno/clovis area supplied from Riverside. Have they finished the distribution centre at Stockton.Mountain View could it be opened earlier than 2010? We need your great comments on these and other matters Best wishes for an early return.

Sorry you have not yet returned. Will Tesco bid for Dutch group Ahold? who own many supermarkets in USA.I do not think so. Fresh and easy seem to be constructing many more stores than thier store locator suggests for instance in Ventura Telegraph Rd/Day Rd plus many more. They are recruiting for TeamLeaders etc. What are your thoughts.Roger
Roger: Right now we think it's a toss up as to if Tesco PLC (F&E's parent) will acquire Royal Ahold. (See our twitter feed for updates, by the way)...
The investment banker ING is promoting the acquisition but Tesco PLC has remained mum to date.
ING's argument is that a Tesco acquisition of Ahold would benefit its USA business, which to date are about 130 Fresh & Easy stores.
We see pro's and con's in Tesco acquiring Ahold -- particularly from the standpoint if it would actually do anything to benefit its USA biz. Of course, one benefit would be the adding of about 700 Ahold USA stores, the Giant and Stop & Shop chains in the east coast. However, what about Fresh & Easy? That would add scale but not fix the hundreds of millions of projected losses for F&E that Tesco's predicts itself for the year and beyond.
We are hoping to have an analysis piece on the potential deal upcoming.
As one of the first employees of Fresh and Easy Hemet I am curious of how the stores are holding up in this market.
ReplyDeleteI see that you are back home, hope you had a good trip???
ReplyDeleteI look forward to your F&E and food retail coverage return.
Steve
I currently work there as well and would like to know what's going No one tells us the real status of the business.

Our information is that the Hemet store, the first Fresh & Easy opened in late October, 2007, still isn't doing 100-k per week in sales.
