Not a surprise to us though - and probably same for many others who follow the retailer closely. <br /><br />The market also seemed pleased; when I last looked Tesco's stock was up 1.8% on the announcement.<br /><br />There will be, if there already isn't, lots of speculation in the trade and business press that Tesco might follow up Japan with a U.S. (Fresh & Easy) exit this year. We don't see that happening. <br /><br />From a strategic standpoint doing so would be foolish for Philip Clarke and company, as pulling out of two international markets in the same year could have very negative results for Tesco. But the timing of our story you commented on is pretty spot on relative to today's announcement.<br /><br />Regarding your model/format question, if you read through the nearly four years of content on the blog, you will see numerous suggestions and examples. Although, I am curious to know what Tesco should really have done to crack the US market? A cheap nasty pile em high Aldi or Lidl approach instead of the sassy complicated Trader Joe's model.
